| Breed Standards: | The Newfie has a square body, with distance from the withers to the feet equalling the length of the dog. They are strong, massive and muscular dogs. The head is broad with a strong skull and dark, sensitive eyes. The chest should be broad, full and deep. |
| History: | Newfoundlands originated in Newfoundland, Canada as working dogs and companion dogs for fisherman. They are considered the gentle giants of the canine world as they are one of the largest dog breeds. The heaviest on record weighed an astonishing 120 kg. They are easy to train, friendly and extremely good with children. Newfoundlands have a water resistent coat, webbed feet and a penchant for swimming, therefore they are known for their incredible water rescues. One Newfoundland saved the lives of 93 sailors from a shipwreck all on his own. |
