| Breed Standards: | It is generally preferred that Affenpinschers have a black coat. The height at the withers and length of the dog should be the same, making the body look square, with a level back. The muzzle should be short and approximately the same length as the distance between the eyes |
| History: | The breed’s origins date back to seventeenth century Germany, although similar dogs have been seen in paintings from as early as the fifteenth century. “Affen” means monkey in German and “pinscher” often signifies rough hair. The Affenpinscher was originally bred to be a ratter, used to remove rodents from kitchens and stables. |
